Gestalt Therapy in Practice – A Journey of Presence and Connection

At Terra Soul Therapies, I draw on both my clinical nursing experience and formal Gestalt Psychotherapy training. This unique blend provides a holistic, embodied approach grounded in presence. Completing formal Gestalt Psychotherapy training wasn’t just an academic milestone; it transformed how I hold space for others.

What is Gestalt Therapy?

Gestalt therapy focuses on the present moment. It does not solely concentrate on diagnosing or fixing problems. Instead, it values what unfolds in the here-and-now. My training introduced me to key concepts, including awareness, contact, field theory, and self-regulation. These foundations empower us to support healing from the inside out—gently, respectfully, and relationally.

The Essence of Relational Practice and Embodied Presence

A vital lesson learned during my training was the importance of being present—not just with clients, but with myself as well. Gestalt therapy values the therapeutic relationship as a space for mutual discovery and growth. I was trained to listen with my whole self—body, breath, and intuition—and to connect with others with honesty and attunement.

Understanding Phenomenology and Field Theory in Therapy

Gestalt therapy utilizes a phenomenological approach. This means staying curious and open to what is, rather than making assumptions or interpretations. I learned that each person’s experiences are shaped by their relationships, culture, and environment. We do not exist in isolation, and healing does not occur in isolation either.

Gently Meeting Resistance in Therapy

In Gestalt therapy, we do not label defenses as dysfunctions. Instead, I learned to view them as creative adaptations—ways we have protected ourselves throughout our lives. By meeting resistance with warmth and curiosity, I can help clients uncover the patterns that once kept them safe but may no longer serve them.

Ethical, Cultural, and Trauma-Informed Care

As a registered nurse, ethical care has always been a priority for me. My Gestalt studies deepened this focus with an emphasis on cultural safety, respect for diversity, and trauma-informed practices. I learned how to work with power gently, honor boundaries, and support people with integrity and compassion.

The Impact at Terra Soul Therapies

This training profoundly shapes how I show up for others—with openness, empathy, and reverence for each person’s unique process. Gestalt therapy is not about doing more; it’s about being present with others. At Terra Soul Therapies, I offer a safe space that invites deep listening, embodied connection, and a gentle return to your own wisdom.

If you’re interested in exploring how Gestalt therapy can support your healing journey, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.

This approach has helped many find their way towards greater self-awareness. The journey is not always easy, but it is rewarding.

The Journey of Self-Awareness

Self-awareness is at the heart of Gestalt therapy. It encourages individuals to become aware of their sensations, thoughts, and feelings in the moment. This awareness can lead to personal insights and profound changes. By focusing on the present, clients often discover patterns that influence their behavior.

Cultivating Mindfulness

Mindfulness is essential in the therapeutic process. By practicing mindfulness, clients can learn to observe their thoughts and feelings without judgment. This practice allows for increased understanding and acceptance. Therapists guide clients in developing this skill, helping them to cultivate a deeper connection with themselves.

Embracing Vulnerability

Embracing vulnerability is another valuable aspect of therapy. It encourages individuals to express feelings that they may typically hide. By sharing fears, hopes, and dreams, clients can build a stronger therapeutic relationship. This honesty creates a safe environment for exploration and growth.

Final Thoughts

Gestalt therapy offers a unique pathway towards healing and self-discovery. By focusing on the here and now, individuals can unlock their potential. At Terra Soul Therapies, I am committed to providing that nurturing space. If you are ready to embark on this journey, please reach out. Together, we can navigate your healing path.
